The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) Rwanda engaged Africa Prudential Plc in Nigeria on the use of digital technology to improve shareholder services, investor participation and capital markets record management.
The meeting concluded CMA Rwanda’s study tour of Nigeria, during which the delegation engaged regulators, exchanges and other capital market institutions.
Led by Chief Executive Officer Romeo Ngarambe, the delegation met Africa Prudential’s management team, including Managing Director Dr Catherine Mose, who also serves as President of Nigeria’s Institute of Capital Market Registrars.
Africa Prudential is a listed capital market registrar responsible for maintaining shareholder records, processing corporate actions and facilitating the distribution of dividends and other investor entitlements.
During the meeting, the company presented digital services that support investors, including automated assistance, virtual shareholder meetings, real-time electronic voting and mobile access to investment portfolios.
The discussions considered how similar technologies could improve communication between listed companies and investors in Rwanda, broaden shareholder participation and strengthen the accuracy of investor records.
The two institutions also discussed digital shareholder platforms, virtual annual general meetings, electronic voting and systems for validating investor information.
The use of these services could support Rwanda’s efforts to modernise its capital market infrastructure and provide investors with easier access to information, shareholder meetings and investment records.
The engagement also covered measures for tracing investors with unclaimed dividends and other outstanding entitlements, as well as professional training for capital market registrars.
